Working with musicians and composers from around the world, the quartet puts a new spin on classical string compositions, winning them a significant following that looks poised to hit the mainstream.
Working with guitars that have varied numbers of strings—sometimes upwards of eight—the group is difficult to pigeonhole. We have a lot of freedom in choosing repertoire and generally we just pick the music we like to listen to, composers and bands we are fans of.

Right off the bat we meet this quirky guy named Rudolph the Red, a colorful socialist in the mythical town of Santa Zanni, somewhere north of San Francisco.
Immediately, Steven C. Levi drops hints of chicanery, political skulduggery and other assorted early 20th century malfeasances. Almost salivating at the thought of juicy details to come, I sensed a rich historical fiction awaiting the turn of the page, maybe steampunk-tinged history capped with a Northern California flair.
Levi had in mind. And exactly what he did have in mind proves to be a puzzler. At its heart Santa Zanni wants to be a historicallyfused fictional saga that blends real events and actual people from the turn of the century with his fictional characters—a tested, tried and proven formula for creating intriguing fiction. His fictional town of Santa Zanni is the perfect location to explore the intersection of big business and roles played by every day citizens.
Santa Zanni was a railway hub town, where the big, locomotive dog was its companion mythical railway, the San Francisco Railroad which either employed many of the main characters or dramatically influenced their lives.
Over the course of his book, Levi introduces his readers to a number of fascinating bit players who all have enormous potential to vie for our undivided attention. The stars of his story do not enter the narrative arc via plot development, but arrive at the beginning of each new chapter, free standing, adrift and untethered.
Sometimes loose links connect one chapter to the other, but for the most part, each stands independent of one another. Sometimes he introduces a slew of Santa Zanni residents into the story, but ultimately the chapter defaults to one specific person.
Amusingly, Mario. Filippo is a sort of red herring, as he was one of the founders of the Italian Socialist Party. There is very little show, too much tell.
But between his intent and delivery we get something else—a series of short stories or more accurately, character sketches. And, while these portraits are solid foundations for people who could possibly inhabit a story, give us the feeling of a real human being, Levi cuts it short with two-dimensional sketches.
Still, as a character, he had the possibility of developing into someone of interest, not consigned to the stereotypical, celluloid-inspired brothel bastard.
Imagine a Tarantino villain emerging whole cloth before our eyes, shaded in the lower depths of his depravity and disdain. Regrettably, Levi skips any such evolution. We learn about what Yazzi did to whom not as a result of watching the plot unfold, but directly from the narrator telling us all about it. Pure exposition, plain and simple. As readers, we expect our stories to contain certain basics—protagonists and antagonists who mess with one another, push a story, resolve conflicts or a least show us why they cannot be resolved.
Stories take us somewhere. Except that in Santa Zanni we go nowhere. No plot develops. They just appear, and then disappear. We are robbed of any chance to get truly angry or sad or enlightened thanks to the lack of any living, breathing story. Featuring all your favorite characters mixed up in a fresh tale!
Going simply by the names Mr. Red, Mr. Blue, Mr. Green, and Mr. On a trip to NYC, Spencer saw street performers playing buckets and started coming up with other household objects that could be used as drum sets.
On the heels of that performance they were offered a show in Las Vegas, where they have been headlining ever since, playing six nights per week. Every audience member is given a drumstick and an object to play on.
Drawing from high energy music, like metal, punk, and hip-hop, Recycled Percussion is all about creating a next level. Their Vegas show is a spectacle of light and sound driven by their athleticism and personalities, just the kind of high octane performance that visitors would expect from the Strip. Recycled Percussion takes the Atwood stage at on Saturday, February A suspect was arrested, and the calls stopped.
