I mean ait's pretty obvious what texture detail means, but what do shader vision, mulitpass shaders, Bump mapping, etc, mean? Basically, good shaders are what prevent "overlit" textures and figures. Shaders make the game lighted more realistically. If you turn this option off, water will look "flat", as will any dynamic lighting. Shaders is not purely shadows, but includes many light effects. Turning them down may drastically improve performance at the cost of eye candy.
Multipass shaders will pass the shader technique over a specified sample for a number of times. You can probably turn this off without noticing much. Bump mapping is a 2D technique that tries to give texture a more realistic look. In essence, it calculates the difference in luminosity between adjacent pixels, and applies a 2D shadow not a shader to emulate height difference by lighting and darkening parts.
Many GUI's use shadowing as a technique to emulate depth think of "3D" buttons , but bump mapping is done on textures and, in this case, probably on-the-fly. Bump mapping is typically costly but improves texture quality considerably.
It makes the difference between flat and "3D" textures. The irony of it all is that ATi's NPatch technology is supported only by its main competitor. If you have an ATi card, turn NPatch off. You can try turning it on with NVidia cards, but you may still get a performance hit.
However, often it is the processor that causes the lagging trouble on busier maps. If your graphics card supports shaders, you can simply keep them on. The same goes for NPatching. The system can only access data as fast as the drives the data is on and if it is trying to access two types of data from the same source then it bottlenecks. This game has never worked since i have owned it. It lags out frequently. From the moment I start the game it makes me hard drive work hard. If I check the task manager while running the game it continues to use more and more memory usage while I run it.
When it finally reaches to about , k of memory usage my computer freezes. I have been in contact with Firefly who says my system should easily support the game and has led me through a bunch of downloads and driver updates. I have tried everything mentioned on this forum. Still nothing. I removed the program cleaned my hard drive, temp files, defraged, and reloaded the program No difference at all.
I am starting to feel like i got a bad game. However i know someone who has a compaq presario that is a little newer than mine and a bit of an upgrade and they have the same issue. Any other suggestions, i really feel like i wasted my money and have only been teased about what appears to be a great game. Maybe I can come up with something. Unfortunately I can't promise you anything.
Please include the specifications for your system: What Processor do you have? How much Memory do you have? What is the Name of your graphics card? What Version graphics driver do you use? What Sound Card do you have? What Version sound driver do you use? When the bar in the lower left corner in the program that starts dissapear, you can find above info on the System pane, the Display pane and the Sound pane. If you have a brandname computer or a laptop please tell which brand and what model like Dell Dimension The model can also sometimes be found on the System tab in dxdiag where it says System model: Please also tell what operating system you are using and if you have ever reinstalled the computer.
I hope this helped :- [This message has been edited by ebram edited AM. So, no matter what you got under the hood, your "game playing" frequency is equivalent to the speed of one processor. I was going through the military campaign and I saw that the enemy military units could run, but no matter what I did my military plodded along like a bunch of lame mules.
Am I missing a hotkey? Is this another bug? Showing 1 - 3 of 3 comments. The last time i played stronghold 3 is a very long time ago but if it is like in other stronghold games your army walk with the speed of the slowest selected unit. If i am not totally wrong a double click at the place you want to send your troops also let the different troops walk to that place in thair own speed instead of the speed of the slowest selected unit.
